Suite D. João

Suite D. João, inspired by the Portuguese "joanino" baroque style seeks to convey the feeling of that period so rich and fortunate, through the theatrical symmetry of space, the stuccos, and the excellence of the wood carvings and tile work. This experience is the result of deeds of great men, like the merchants, who brought to Portugal the wealth and influence of the new world. It is because of all these events and influences, which are attributed to this illustrious Portuguese king, who reigned from 1707 to 1750, that he was nicknamed "The Magnanimous."

Suite D. Manuel

To D. Manuel I, born in 1469 and reigning from 1495 to 1521, nicknamed "The Fortunate", Portugal owes a time where the naturalistic imagery is represented in the architecture and decoration. The use and combination of flora  motifs, animals and elements used in day-to-day activities by the Portuguese navigators, such as ropes and anchors, resulted in a style (known as "Manuelino") that has spread to the four corners of the world. Inspired in this great Portuguese King, this suite tries to show all the influence that the Portuguese spread across the world.

D. Maria Suite

To the Neoclassical taste, Queen Maria I, born in 1734 and reigning from 1777 to 1816, influenced Portugal in a style that was given its own name. Simple lines, cared for and refined, represented in the decoration and architecture, through the stucco, decorative paintings and especially in the furniture, marked an era that lasted until the first half of the century. XIX. All this delicacy is evident in the cognomen attributed to him, the "Pious".

The Dª Maria suite, with period ceilings, influenced all the decoration of the space, where the atmosphere is breathed through the colors, textures, and inevitably by the pieces of furniture used.

Suite D. Fernando

King Ferdinand II (Ferdinand of Saxe Coburg Gotta), was born in 1816 in Vienna from Austria and became king of Portugal by marriage to Queen D. Maria II. His reign lasted from 1836 to 1855, during which he devoted himself to the arts, having been nicknamed "Artist King".

To him it is due the introduction of the romantic style in Portugal. The romantic vision produces a rupture with the neoclassical aesthetics and the rationalist vision of the time, focusing on the individual and bringing the inspiration of human subjectivity through the valuation of the dreams and feelings inherent in Man. Thus a mixture of styles arises, where works in stucco, tiles and the taste for collecting are valued. The furniture gains rounded and worked shapes. The colors are soft and neutral to create a harmonious effect. The former libris of this movement in Portugal is the Palácio da Pena, in Sintra, which was restored by order of the King Consort from the acquisition of the Monastery of the Order of Jerónimos and that was in ruin.

The D. Fernando suite recreates the atmosphere of this period
